The Interim Measures for the Administration of Internet Advertising entered into force on 1 Sept. 2016.
There are 29 articles in total, which aim to regulate the use of the Internet for advertising activities. The key points are as follows:
- It is prohibited to use the Internet to publish advertisements for goods or services that are not allowed to produce or sell by laws and administrative regulations.
- It is prohibited to use the Internet to publish advertisements for prescription drugs and tobacco. Other pharmaceutical advertisements shall be subject to examination and approval before being published online.
- Internet advertisements shall be marked with an obvious sign of “Ads”.
- It is prohibited to use technical means to block, filter, cover, and/or fast forward others’ legitimate advertising.
- It is prohibited to use technical means to disrupt the normal advertising data transmission, tamper with or block others’ legitimate advertising, and load advertising without authorization.
