Law on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution Caused by Solid Wastes of China was promulgated in 1995, and amended in 2004, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2020 respectively. The latest revision entered into force on September 1, 2020.

The key points are as follows:
1.This Law shall apply to the prevention and control of environmental pollution caused by solid wastes. This Law shall not apply to the prevention and control of marine environmental pollution by solid wastes and environmental pollution by radioactive solid wastes.(Article 2)
2.Entities and individuals generating or engaging in the collection, storage, transport, utilization or disposal of solid wastes shall adopt measures to prevent or reduce environmental pollution by solid wastes and shall bear liability for any resulting environmental pollution in accordance with the law.(Article 5)
3.The State implements a domestic waste classification system.(Article 6)
4.The competent department of ecology and environment under the State Council shall conduct unified supervision and administration of the prevention and control of environmental pollution caused by solid wastes nationwide.(Article 9)
5.It is forbidden to dump, pile up or dispose of any solid wastes from abroad within the territory of China. The State gradually realizes zero import of solid wastes. (Article 23 and 24)
