The National Defense Education Law was promulgated in 2001 and amended in 2018 respectively. The latest revision entered into force on April 27, 2018.

There are 38 articles in total.

The key points are as follows:

1.This Law is promulgated for the purpose of popularizing and strengthening education in national defense, carrying forward the spirit of patriotism, promoting the building of national defense and furthering socialist cultural and ethical progress.

2.All citizens of the People’s Republic of China have the rights and obligations to accept national defense education.

3.The education administrative departments shall list the national defense education into their working plan, shall strengthen the organization, guidance to and supervision over the national defense education of schools and shall regularly evaluate the national defense education work of schools.
