The Opinions on Implementing Trademark Brand Strategy and Promoting Chinese Brand Construction were promulgated on 17 May 2017.
There are 26 articles in total, which aim to promote the effective use of trademarks and enhance the competitiveness of Chinese brands by strengthening the protection for trademarks.
The key points are as follows:
Well-known trademarks, geographical indications, foreign-related trademarks and time-honored trademarks will be under particular protection.
The information of administrative punishment for trademark infringement and counterfeiting and illegal trademark agency will be included in the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System (available at: http://www.gsxt.gov.cn/index.html).
The State Administration for Industry and Commerce will issue guidelines for enterprises to implement the trademark brand strategy.
The State Administration for Industry and Commerce provides convenience for the registration of trademark pledge, the trademark transfer and the trademark brand asset evaluation.
China will actively participate in the negotiations on trademark rules of multilateral/bilateral free trade areas and strengthen cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
China will establish an information collection platform for overseas trademark protection of Chinese enterprises, and assist Chinese enterprises in handling overseas trademark registration and rights protection.
