Provisions on the Administration of Account Names of Internet Users entered into force on 1 Mar. 2015.
There are 10 articles in total. The Provisions aim to regulate the activities of registration, use and management of account names of Internet users within the territory of China. Key points of the Provisions are as follows:
The Cyberspace Administration of China and its local government counterparts are the regulatory authorities of the area.
Internet-based information service providers (“service providers”) shall review the account names, headshots, and profiles and other information reported by the Internet users, in order to avoid the negative or illegal information.
Service providers shall authenticate users’ real identity information.
Where a user falsely uses or associates the account name with an institution or celebrity, the service providers shall cancel its account.
