The Regulations on the Security Protection of Computer Information System were promulgated on 18 Feb. 1994, and amended in 2011. The latest revision entered into force on 8 Jan. 2011.

There are 31 articles in total. The Regulations aim to protect the security of computer information systems within the territory of China. The Ministry of Public Security is the competent authority in this field, whose functions and powers include supervising the relevant security protection; investigating and punishing the illegal acts endangering the computer security.
