The Regulations on the Protection of Olympic Symbols were promulgated on 4 Feb. 2002, and amended in 2018. The latest revision entered into force on 31 July 2018. There are 18 articles in total, which aim to promote the protection of Olympic symbols and protect the legitimate rights and interests of the right holders of Olympic symbols.

The right holder of the Olympic symbol refers to the International Olympic Committee, the Chinese Olympic Committee, the institutions applying for hosting the Olympic Games in China and the organizations holding the Olympic Games in China.
The right holder of the Olympic symbol shall enjoy the exclusive right to the Olympic symbol in accordance with the Regulations.
Without the permission of the owner of the Olympic symbol, no one shall use the Olympic symbol for commercial purposes.
The use of elements related to the Olympic Games to carry out activities, which may mislead people into believing that there is sponsorship or other support relationship with the right holders of Olympic symbols, shall constitute unfair competition.
