The Traditional Chinese Medicine Law was promulgated in 2016 and entered into force on July 1, 2017.

There are 63 articles in total.

The key points are as follows:

1.The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the general term of medicine of all Chinese ethnic groups including the Han ethnic group and minority ethnic groups.

2.The state shall vigorously develop the TCM undertaking, carry out the principle of giving equal emphasis to TCM and western medicine.

3.The governments shall include the construction of TCM institutions into its plan of medical institution establishment, establish TCM institutions.

4.The state encourages medical institutions to make and use TCM preparations according to their requirements for using drugs for clinic use, supports the application of traditional techniques in preparing TCM preparations, and supports the research and development of new TCM based on TCM preparations.
