On 28 Nov. 2024, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s top legislature, passed the newly amended “Supervision Law of the People’s Republic of China”, which will come into effect on 1 June 2025.
According to the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, this amendment to the Supervision Law focuses on strengthening the oversight and restrictions on supervisory powers, with an emphasis on safeguarding citizens’ rights. The major changes include reinforcing the standardization of supervisory law enforcement, enhancing the protection of citizens’ rights, ensuring that supervisory coercive measures are used prudently and in strict accordance with the law.
